Black & White Lace Barbie Doll Clothes

Southern Belle in Black and White Lace

I have always loved making my own doll clothes! I started sewing clothes for my own dolls when I was about 9 years old. In my teens, I made clothes for myself, stopped for a several years, then started again, making Halloween costumes for my son until he started creating his own in his teens. I started up again a few years later, mostly making clothes for myself, until I became a Grandmother. When my first Granddaughter was just 2 yrs. old, she was really in to Barbie dolls, so I thought I’d try making a few doll clothes for her, and I loved doing it. Since she liked them so much, that year for Christmas I made her a wardrobe of doll clothes for her American Girl doll. The next project was to make Disney Princess dresses for 4 more 18″ dolls, which all turned out beautifully, but brought me to the realization that what I really loved  was making evening gowns for Barbie Dolls!

I’ve been advised to make some doll clothes that can be purchased in a choice of colors, and that’s definitely one of my future projects. The problem with that idea, however, is that what I really love is creating “out of the ordinary” evening gowns. I take real pride in using quality materials and trims, and adding my own touch to the patterns I’ve purchased.

All of my doll clothes are made with loving care, in a smoke free environment, from all new materials. The little girl in me loves every one of them, and would rather keep them (and the dolls) than sell them!  I hope you’ll find one you love as well. The select dolls that are included with some of the gowns, whether Vintage or Modern, came to me with tangled, dull hair. I turn my sewing room into a beauty shop for a few days and …voila!
